EPN x Together We Rise  2023

Together We Rise is a first-of-its-kind event for Scarborough, presenting multiple artistic disciplines and commissioning original, professional works. Taking place at Scarborough Civic Centre and Cineplex Scarborough Town Centre, the festival is co-produced and co-presented by: Nagata Shachu Japanese Taiko and Music Group, Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, tiger princess dance projects (tpdp), Japan Foundation Toronto, Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts & Culture, Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA), and Empowered Phụ Nữ.

Empowered Phụ Nữ led “nhà bếp của EPN" (the kitchen of EPN) inviting participants to create traditional Vietnamese dishes through craft. Vietnamese women youth artists were celebrated and Beyond the Lens photographs were installed in physical exhibition for the very first time!  “Nhà bếp của EPN" was co-led by Linda Bùi, Anna Nguyễn, Julia Huỳnh and Linda Phạm.

EPN x T3 at the Association for Asian American Studies Conference 2022

This roundtable discussion, “Conflict and Care: an intergenerational, transnational dialogue between feminist scholar-activists” addressed questions in the collaborative publication authored by Thúy Võ Đặng, Thảo Hà & Tú-Uyên Nguyễn (T3), “Conflict and Care: Vietnamese American Women and the Dynamics of Social Justice Work,” (Amerasia, Fall 2021).

Empowered Phụ Nữ Collective co-creators Linda Bùi, Julia Huỳnh, & Michelle Nguyễn were invited to respond to the publication in this meaningful conversation.

Following the discussion, participants responded to the guided prompts in our co-created zine (available below) while listening to music from our collaborative playlist

The roundtable was streamed live on our IG and is now available with closed captioning on our YouTube!

Celebrating Asian Heritage Month 2022

We were recently invited to introduce EPN and share our reflections on our experiences as Asian Canadians at St.Matthew Catholic Elementary School’s Asian Heritage Month Event. On behalf of EPN, Michelle Nguyễn shared about our collective's mission and reflected on her own experiences as an Asian Canadian woman.

Thank you to all the grade 8 students and teachers who attended and asked thoughtful questions!
